CTUpdate (WSUS Offline)

This is a nifty little utility that enables you to perform an offline update of all Microsoft XP (or vista) patches within the space of 25 minutes. You may have a high speed connection but hackers out there are relentlessly targeting boxes that have not been patched and the time you spend downloading could be the time you spend getting owned especially with a vanilla 2K, XP or Vista installed with no service packs/ hotfixes applied. For those who have a number of standalones systems with little or no network connectivity or everyday users still on dial-up, this facility can also enable you to regularly update your machines simply, safely and easily. Its almost akin to your own personalised service pack

VISTA/W7 - Black Screen white mouse pointer

(If you don't have a repair disk use UBCD and start at step 4)

1) Use the vista DVD to go to the repair mode.

2) From the same screen where you do the system restore, there's an option to open an administrative command prompt.
3) That should open in X:\Sources or something like that
4) Go to the windows drive by entering C:
5) Now go to the windows event log folder on your machine (C:\Windows\System32\winevt):
cd c:\windows\system32\winevt
6) ren Logs Logs_bad
7) mkdir Logs
This will create an empty folder for new event logs.

Restart the system and cross fingers.

This worked for me.

Device Remover is an in depth Windows Device Manager alternative

One of the many built-in Windows system tools that still lacks in many ways, is the Windows Device Manager. Getting to the deep down details of the hardware installed on your system can be annoying via the default Windows method. I’ve previously seen many alternatives to other utilities within Windows, but none in particular for the Device Manager. That’s why Device Remover caught me off guard, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Device Remover is an incredibly in depth Windows Device Manager alternative that gives you many more features than the one built-in. Easy removal, driver views, troubleshooting and mass editing of multiple devices makes this easily one of the best of it’s kind out there. The best part of it is that it appears to be compatible with every version of Windows, XP and beyond, including Windows 7.

It’d be a great utility to have on a small or large network for quick troubleshooting of hardware devices on a Windows PC.

Firefox 4 New Old Menu 1.0.0.3

This AddOn changes the main menu (accessible via the orange/purple button), so it keeps more UI elements from the "normal" old menu bar. At least for myself this makes the menu more easy to use.

You have reloaded XP Home over XP home to try and fix a problem/virus/corruption/spyware and just get wallpaper, no desktop, no menus or anything else

It’s the Windows activation gone Stupid. The activation period has expired, (past 30 days) so you get no desktop and you need to get to Normal mode because you can’t activate in safe mode. (Real clever, no way back!)

    1. Turn On your PC

    1. Press F8 repeatedly and go to Safe Mode with command prompt

    2. Logon as per normal
(note: Administrator password is usually blank, but hopefully you know your password)

    3. Type the following in exactly:

      cd %systemroot%\system32
      rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk (and click OK)

(note: one space, after "rundll32.exe " also the Oo are two letter o's in "oobe"; capitals and comma are important)

    4. Wait a couple of seconds (although you will Not see any change)

    5. Type ‘explorer’ at the DOS prompt to start explorer then restart your PC normally (Start - Shutdown - Restart - Ok)

    6. You are now able to go to Normal Mode again (For another 30 days !!!)

    7. You need to download “IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe” (16 Megs) on another machine because the XP re-install will have reloaded IE6 and believe it or not the Activation wizard now only words with IE8. Isn’t that clever of Microsoft!

    8. Install IE8, (do not install ie7).That should solve not being able to browse and not being able to activate.

    9. Start. All Programs. Activate Windows. You should be done.

    Other things you might need:

If the Windows XP Home key is invalid or used you can use Magic Jelly Been to install and new key.

You must you the old version (15.3) because the later version has removed this feature. (Maybe they were threatened)

Or you might need to Edit the registry to reset the OOBET timer. Do this next if the process above fails.

    1. Begin by opening the Registry Editor and navigating to

    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\WPAEvents

    2. In the right pane, right-click the ODBETimer binary value and select Modify. Change at least one character of this value to either a number from 0 to 9 or to a letter from A to F, then click OK and close the Registry Editor. This renders the current product key invalid and deactivates Windows.

    3. Now, it’s time to reactivate Windows using your new product key. Enter this command at the DOS prompt.

      %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe /a

(Where %systemroot% is your Windows directory.) In many cases, this command will look like:

      C:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

    4. At this point, Windows should launch the Product Activation Wizard. If it does not, restart and use step 10 above.

    GOOD LUCK

    Thanks for the info Greg!!!

In the Internet often haunts the statement a 32-bit operating system can technically only managed a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. This is wrong and Microsoft is even evidence itself, that with the special version of "Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition" it worked:
